Belting 101

You've probably tried to belt before. Maybe it felt strained, or you ran out of breath, or it just didn't sound like the singers you admire. Here's the thing: belting isn't actually hard. It's just misunderstood.

In this course, you'll learn that there are actually two different techniques that both get called "belting" – True Belt and High Belt – and why that distinction changes everything. You'll discover how to produce a sustainable, powerful belt sound using a simple technique that bypasses all the tension and overthinking. Whether you want to sing musical theatre, pop, rock, or R&B, this is the foundation that unlocks those sounds.

Lessons

01 - What is Belting?

Learn what belting actually is, where it came from, and why there are really two different techniques hiding under one name. You'll hear the difference between True Belt and High Belt, and get a roadmap for the entire course.

02 - Prerequisites Check

A quick checkpoint to make sure you have the foundation for success. We'll point you to the courses that will help if you need them – but you decide if you're ready to move forward.

03 - Belting is Easy

Your first belt. Using a simple exhale-then-call technique, you'll discover that belting is easier than you thought. By the end of this lesson, you'll have produced a real belt sound – and it won't hurt.

04 - Simple Patterns (True Belt)

Now that you've found the coordination, it's time to build consistency. You'll work through 5-tone patterns and arpeggios, staying in your True Belt range until the technique becomes reliable.

05 - High Belt

What happens when you need to belt above C5? The technique changes. You'll learn how High Belt uses head voice coordination with added brightness – and why the Head Voice course was on your prerequisites list.

06 - Finding Your Transition

Coming Soon

Every voice has a point where True Belt stops working and High Belt takes over. In this lesson, you'll find yours – and learn to spot it on sheet music so you're never caught off guard.

07 - Simple Patterns (High Belt)

Coming Soon

The same patterns from lesson 04, now applied to your High Belt range. You'll build consistency and confidence in the upper part of your belt voice.

08 - Back and Forth

Coming Soon

Real songs don't stay in one register. You'll practice transitioning smoothly between True Belt and High Belt on scales and leaps – building the flexibility to handle whatever the music throws at you.

09 - Applying to Songs

Coming Soon

Time to take it off the exercise track and into real repertoire. You'll learn how to choose practice material and identify where belt fits in the songs you want to sing.

10 - Artistic Considerations

Coming Soon

Belt is a tool, not a requirement. In this final lesson, we'll explore when to use belt, when not to, and how to make expressive choices that serve the music.
